This should be considered when you’re visiting a country where the infection is common and you’re planning to do outdoor activities when you get there. TBE is a viral infection which is spread through bites from infected ticks. Most infections will not suffer any symptoms, however, in severe cases permanent neurological damage including behavioural/mood changes and reduced concentration will occur. About 1 in 100 patients will die from TBE. The vaccine is not available under the NHS.
